How to create
a customised Favorites Icon
Teacher: Akinori
Furukoshi
If you have ever visited sites
such as Yahoo and added them as a favourite, you would have
noticed that the icon is very different to other favourites
in your menu.
Here's how it's done. This works
on IE5, I'm not sure about other browsers. Test it out by going
to www.tamingthebeast.net and adding it to your Favourites
--------
Create a new image 16x16 pixels
in your favourite graphics program.
Drop the number of colours to
16 to minimise file size
Create your graphic (okay, I
know-16x16 pixels doesn't give you much room to be creative!)
Save it as a gif.
Use an icon editor or similarly
capable graphics program to open it. Icon editors are available
in my download area - or you can email me and I'll send you
a freeware copy.
Save it as favicon.ico in the
root directory of the web.
----------------------
This will help make your Favourite
listing stand out from the rest........
The file size is very small,
so it won't bug your users. The Taming the Beast icon is around
318 bytes.
